I have a seedling, Trident Maple started in the spring what is the best way to keep it in good shape for the winter I live in PA N.E. corner, I have a green house that is not heated, I do realize that it has to hibernate for the winter but it's not best for the tree to freez.

the greenhouse would be fine as long as you provide water, or at least check the soil to see if it needs any water. The dormant tree wont use much at all, and wont use any when the rootball is frozen, but cannot survive without any water. I put my trees in pots on the ground surrounded with mulch. Rain and snow will usually take care of watering. Also try and protect the tree from winter winds, which can cause dieback of small twigs, and even very young trees.

Thank You Very much

Mike, you'll want to make sure that this greenhouse doesn't get sunny and warm inside this winter. If it's a true greenhouse, you can get shade cloth to cover it, or some greenhouse paint. You'll probably need some venting too. The tree doesn't need ANY sun in the winter, and if it gets too warm for too long, it'll break dormancy, and start to leaf, in the middle of winter! And then you have no options, but to try to keep it warm till spring. Another option if you can't keep the greenhouse cold, then try your unheated garage.
Keep a stick in the soil, and check it regularly. Only water when it needs it, and never water a frozen rootball.
Good luck!
