I was able to get to the new house for the first time without snow on the ground. I didn't explore too much since I was busy transplanting some hostas.
But, near the house, there are dozens if not hundreds of small white cedar seedlings and also some small balsam firs. Nothing especially good, but plenty to practice on. I'm not sure what there is in the way of deciduous trees as they aren't leafing out yet. There were a few big old ugly ground cover junipers growing in a perfect spot for a vegetable garden, so those might become bonsai too.

Look around further.
Tamaracks live in the same type of areas.
It sounds just like my back yard.
