Hello all,

New to me juniper find. I found this "bonsai" a local Vietnamese nursery in Dallas sitting in a corner and asked if it was for sale. It looked to be planted in almost 100% pearlite. Thus far I have spent about an hour

Removing twiggy material
Removing some of the loose pearlite and replacing it with bonsai soil
Brief trimming to give it some shape.

I bought it for the trunk size and I feel like I see a semi decent informal upright assuming. I was thinking of jinning the upper third.

after getting it home and cleaning it up a bit

I also hit it with some miracle grow - about 1 tablespoon in 2 gallons or so in case it had been neglected for a bit.

Any horticulture, general maintenance, and styleing advice is welcome.

Nice find! I think it would be worth it to seek professional guidance in person with that juniper. People here can give you guidance for sure. Styling it is better done in person with material like that.

Fertilizing right now isn’t necessary or really good to do unless you are experiencing spring currently where you are.

Vietnamese nursery
What makes a nursery a vietnamese nursery? Do they import from Vietnam?

Find out which species of juniper you have there (Parsonii?). In general, water plenty and give it lots of sun.
For styling, share pictures of the tree against a plain background, from all sides to people can gauge the trunkline & branches.

7-8 green houses of southeast asian herbs and traditional medicinal plants, signs in Vietnamese etc. Its a neat nursery and they generally grow from seed what no other western nurseries would have.

Thanks for the horticultural advice. I will take some more shots.

Nice piece of material there :)
