"New to me" scale juniper mimic pest

Found this on a shimpaku juniper this evening. No evidence of wholesale destruction fortunately. I love these clever mimics, except for the damage they do, and this is a new one to me. When I spotted it it was lined up along a shoot and except for the thickness difference was pretty inconspicuous to say the least.

Is a squashed bug now. Was green inside too.

It's probably green because it ate so much of the juniper's foliage.
