I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Rich and I'm in the Los Angeles  (Glendale) area. My local bonsai store is Eden in La Crescenta, CA and have been going there for about 6 years and have bought 2 trees of which one is still alive. I am just now taking this hobby into a whole new level and looking to gain more knowledge and skill to care for, style and maintain my trees. I just found out about Kimura, of which I tried to stop by on a Tuesday, but they were closed. They probably should post their hours of operation on their site (or I didn't see it). However, I heard many good things about them and can't wait to get in there and maybe take some classes. My collection is very small since I live in a condo. My 2nd story balcony is where my trees are. I have a couple Junipers and a Chinese Elm. I'm looking into a maple and a pine to complete my collection (FOR NOW). I've been lurking the forum for about a week now and love what I have seen here.

Thanks again,
Rich

I'll post the maple later today. Need to shoot it with the DSLR.

Welcome to the forum! :)

You can message/PM Bob (bonsaibp) here, he own Kimura Bonsai.

welcome! I live in Altadena. Do you ever go to Descanso Bonsai Society (DBS) meetings? They are in La Canada at Descanso Gardens once a month on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm. Every month there is a different program to see, like demonstrations and such and a raffle thats a good amount of fun. The club is made up of beginners, novices, intermediates and advanced artists. You MUST come and its less than 10 minutes from you so no excuses! :)

Never have. Thank you for the info! I'll have to make it next month for sure!

Welcome to the site and hobby. Also thanks for the heads up about the hours not being on the website, I'll change that as soon as I figure out how. So you know though we are open Mon., Wed., Fri. and Sat. from 9-5 and the 1st and 3rd Sun. for class.
You really should try to make a Descanso meeting it's a good bunch of people of you can learn alot from and get exposed to quite a bit of bonsai knowledge.

I saw in your profile you like bass fishing as well-so do I! I bring my boat up to the Delta and Clear Lake several times a year. After being up there Castatic and the rest of the local lakes are hard to take but I hit them once in awhile especially in winter when they are emptyish.

Thanks Bob I'll try to make it. As far as bass fishing goes, I try to hit the water once a week. I'll attach a few pics of some So Cal bass I've caught and released. Castaic is one of my local waters. I love to hit Diamond Valley in Hemet as well. I'm also a bait painter and So Cal Rep for a company called Bass Brigade.

Awesome baits and fish. I can't bring my boat (2000 Vmax 225 2 stroke) to Diamond Valley and I just get tired of the crowds at the local lakes not to mention the wasted time with inspections.
You can combine bonsai and bassing when the water is high ( if it ever happens again) at the Colorado river lakes. There are some awesome tamarisk that have tons of deadwood that can be collected- but the water needs to rise 20' or more and that doesn't seem too likely with all the water being used and no rain.
Anyhow hope to see you at the nursery or on the water soon.
