Hello, everyone.

I just joined and and wanted to ask the community a few quick questions:
I got this maple yesterday, it's planted in regular dirt (I think) with some kind of spongy black rocks (almost like perlite) with an orange coating, on top of the dirt. It is 7 years old, according to the previous owner. I forgot to ask the owner what kind of Japanese Maple it is. Can someone help me ID it?

I would also like some styling advice. Right now I'm thinking about a chop at the red line and separating the two trunks into two trees, though I might keep it as it is. Generally, I'd want to go for a Moyogi style bonsai (or a Soukan style one, I suppose if I keep them together) and I'd like to avoid Hokidachi. In the end I'm still very much a newbie and would like some advice.

I've also seen a trick where the tree is threaded through some kind of metal sheath to create a nice nebari, does anyone have experience with this?
As for this trees nebari... it sure has one? 🤷

Maybe a Bloodgood, I'd plan on letting it grow for this year, maybe plan your cuts for next season after you repot into something flatter and wider
