I thought it could be fun to make a thread where beginners post their trees...I already have five (four nursery stock, one chinese elm) that I'm hoping will survive to learn on. Nothing I would consider to be good material by most people's standards on here, but I will have fun with them all the same and I'm enjoying learning how to look after them :)

Us newbies will likely not have the knowledge to advise each other - but at least we can share! Maybe some of the more experienced can chip in with thoughts and point out all the daft mistakes we're making...Someone may spot a problem that we hadn't noticed or knew existed - I'm sure that will be the case for at least one of mine (iffy leaves on hazel? 😂)

Maybe if we're all posting pretty sub-par trees together, this will give us the confidence to keep sharing and learning! Would also be cool to see how we progress and improve our skills.

(Sorry if a thread like this already exists - couldn't see one though).

There's got to be a million of you!

@Shibui already mentioned @Clorgan has a vibrant energy for this thing. I can see her leading a bunch of Newbs into a future greatness.

Even if you've posted em elsewhere. Throw em here too! It'll be a good place to check the progress of our Covid Newbs!

Cheers @Clorgan ! You make this a better place!

My wife got me a simple Juniper and my obsession has grown into japanese maples, lol. Here are some of them, I have yet to cut them as I just got some of them a few months ago and I am afraid to do anything until winter. Some of them look sad and I am trying to do as much research as I can to get them to tip top shape.

These look great! 😊 I'm just curious - is that a greenhouse you've got going on there? The maples not keen on too much sun?

Oh, wow. So, I’m also a COVID newbie, but I’m super new.... here are my wisteria seeds that were planted on the 10th.

Good for you for getting starting - good luck with the seeds 😊 I'm sure the experienced members will be able to offer good advice and tips on these!

Not sure if you've looked into it, but there's a lot of info on here about developing cheap nursery stock - might be a good way to keep you busy whilst waiting for your seeds!

Deffinately! I want “control” over the entire process for these, but I’m already looking at some 3 YO saplings in my yard to dig up... I wanted nursery stock originally, but all of it near me was dead and anything shipped just wasn’t worth it.

Saplings sound fun! What type of plant? Again, loads of people will be able to advise - especially on picking the right time of year to dig up (I've learned that timing is a very important factor through far many badly timed bits of work I've done so far 😂)

Daft question - have you tried a range of places? My local garden centre seems to sell absolute trash on the whole but nearer my work I've found a few great looking places

It’s a pine tree! I love the looks of pine, so we shall see! I have tried every store in town, but we are mostly Home Depot and star nursery...

Nice idea for a thread @Clorgan (In my head you come from from Lurgan. C Lorgan from Lurgan. You’re not actually from Norn Iron are ya?). Anyway.... Here’s my little slice of pie. 100 or so things in pots.

Great logic there! But no I'm actually from Yorkshire, England. Clorgan is just an amalgamation of my name - Claire Morgan, genius I know 😂 very nice collection! Looks like you've got some great material there 👍

@Clorgian ,

almost all plants down here are from seed [ pot is home-made ]

Sorry Anthony just checking I understood - you mean from seed is the way you grow plants where you live - the Caribbean?

Nice pine! How old is it? I love the pot! :)
