thanks, jerry

the edges were done with a die grinder then torched. working*on two thinner slabs. thinner is definitely better. will post pictures soon.

best wishes, sam

Nice work. How do you flatten the top and bottom? I have a few slabs but no thickness planer and am looking for alternate methods to flatten the top. Thanks

Nice slab, Sam! Do you have a bandsaw to cut the thin slices or do you buy them pre-cut?

hi cory and frank

most of my wood comes from a tropical lumber dealer.
the slab starts out as rough sawn lumber from local trees-lychee in this case. I pick the thinnest pieces with the nicest grain I can find . flaws in the wood are an added bonus. the seller levels and sands the wood to the thickness I want. rather than try to level your slabs with a hand sander (nearly impossible), take them to a cabinet shop and have them done. this will save you hours of work and frustration. I do not have a band saw nor have I tried to cut thin sections from raw wood. my sense is, this is not easy to do and could be dangerous for an inexperienced hobbiest like myself. save your fingers. go to a lumber yard.

here are two of the latest pieces underway. these are .50 inches thick and better than 2 feet long. the next batch will be about .25 inch thick. have fun guys.

best wishes, sam
