The latest additions to my collection include these three waterfall scrolls. When usuing scrolls with bonsai it is important to keep the scroll subject as subtle as possible. It is best when the subject is one element, allowing for the tree and accent to complete the message. The scroll should be mostly a seasonal marker telling of the season quickly at a glance. If it is too busy the composition will keep the viewer moving around the display and never really reading what the display is saying. Always keep it simple.

On these three I have included a close up of the signatures. Anyone wishing to take a crack at them can be my guest. I would appreciate any thoughts on the artists.

I like waterfall scrolls for the reason that they are good scrolls depicting spring/summer. It is hard to find good single element scroll for spring and summer. since I have some good deadwood junipers, these type scrolls work well depicting mountain type scenery with a waterfall.

This is a very inexpensive scroll being paper on paper. The mount is paper rather than brocade and the art has been mounted more for preservation rather than display. It is a nice waterfall but is poorly executed so should not be used in a Tokonoma setting. This would be a case where having the art removed and remounted would make the most sense.

Why would replacing the mount make any difference if the art is inferior?

Remounting isn't cheap...

Bad choice of words. The art is ok, mounting is inferior. I think this would be a good acceptable scroll if it was remounted in a better brocade mount. Nothing fancy just a better quality. I like the sumi-e quality of the artwork and the brush work is really nice.

Two new scrolls. The first one is of a frog on a rock. The bottom of the hang bar is ceramic.

Second one is some koi on a moonlit night.
