Normal tree trunk?

I got my first bonsai tree about three weeks ago so I do not know too much about them. I've attached a picture of the trunk (the full picture of it is my profile picture) What I am concerned about is the very bottom of the trunk. Is this something I need to worry about or is this a normal occurrence? If it is something bad, is there anything I can do to help it?

Looks fine to me. As the bark and the phloem reach down towards the soil surface it becomes increasingly more corkey and able to withstand higher moisture levels it's just the way the bark changes at as it reaches the roots to withstand the higher moisture at that level.
Cool Jade!
It does look fine but then again is a jade a tree I'm thinking trees but I'm sure it's similar instance
