Looks like one of them rare Chinese emperor flowers to me. I believe they were not to be taken outside the forbidden city. It was fav past time of the city guards seeing who could smuggle a cutting out, with out being caught, hung, burned, quartered, tortured, decapitated and made to eat sushi.

There's a nursery around here that sells ivy leaf pelargonium as bonsai 
Some don't actually look too terrible. Since I've told them what I'm looking for they can't seem to understand why I'm crawling through their mugo, yew, and juniper instead of looking at their "pre-bonsai" tropical plants.
