I am new to bonsai but would like to turn this Monterey cypress into my first attempt. It was very small when I bought it three and a half years ago. It has grown vigorously in a pot outside in the summer and in my basement under grow lights in the winter (located in northern Indiana.) It is about 5' tall now. I have cut it back a few times.
My plan right now is to cut it back to about two feet tall to encourage stronger lower branch growth on the tree and to leave it in its current pot for now.
It's a really gorgeous tree and I hope to keep it growing long term - but as a bonsai. Any thoughts on my best moves from here on out?
