Nursery Crepe Myrtle #1

I repotted this Crepe myrtle today into a $4 melamine soup bowl from target. (Fyi, melamine can crack easily if you apply too much pressure when drilling drainage holes).

I don't think this tree will ever be a show stopper of a bonsai, but I'm very happy with the results so far. I especially like the color contrast between the leaves, the trunk, and the pot.

Can Crepe myrtle handle some foliage work after a big root prune or should I let it recover this season?
