Boxwoods generally have a good rootspread a softer older looking bark that's flaky and this has smooth bark and the roots are swollen and tangled underneath like holly.

It looks to be ilex vomitoria, yaupon holly
Or ilex crenata - Japanese Holly. The 'helleri' variety is pretty common and masquerades as boxwood pretty easily. The Yaupons I know have a slightly different leaf shape.

A very easy was to tell the difference between boxwood and holly is boxwood has an opposite leaf pattern and all hollies have alternating leaf patterns.
