I received a new Japanese black pine from a local nursery man for an excellent deal. He said it is grafted and is a type that was popular with bonsai because of the rough bark that forms quickly, but the exact variety is unknown. It has been in its nursery can for A very long time without repotting. It has also not been appropriately fertilized. Not sure if this tree is destined to be a bonsai, or just a really great large container tree, but the first priority is to get it good and healthy.
It is 4 inches across the base.
even the branches have great bark.
I plan to gently repott it into a larger container for now with some good fresh substrate to try to improve the health of a tree overall. My question is does anybody recognize this Foliar disease. Not sure if it is fungal, sunburn, or just poor care.
