This is a nursery stock Hinoki that I got a couple of years ago. I let it grow all last year so I decided to do a little pruning and styling. It still had a little of it's winter color in the after pics. Still needs some tweaks but I'm just happy that I could kinda hide the ugly graft and create a half way decent apex.

Good job.

I’m not sure there is a graft there, looks like hinoki bark all the way to the soil. Could be former broken branch site down low.

The issue I see with this tree is that it has little taper. You might consider chopping it 1/2 way up and wire a branch up as a new leader to start developing more taper.

cheers

Hinoki are wonderful trees as long as you approach them according to their own growth patterns and needs.
