I bought these five oaks in one gallon containers this winter and planted them in this training pot in Feb. I plan to lop the upper portions of the trees at the end of this growing season to about half their size.

Cool, let us know how it goes. I am on an oak kick as of late and have found some places to collect them, I just haven't got out to get them yet. I also planted some in the ground.... Where I live they are everywhere, big huge, gnarly trees that are so awesome and inspiring..... I am talking about Oregon White Oak.

Good luck with your grove!

Mile_High,

Here's the grove you requested an update on. As you may (or may not) be able to see, the secondary tree has died. This isn't a permanent placement. The challenge with these trees that have grown from seed in a one gallon container is to created a nice set of roots rather than the snake-like trunk/tap root that curls around the container.
