Hi everyone,

So, last Christmas, my dad got me a quercus sapling. I’ve been able to get it to root in a big pot. I wanted to show you all my progress so far, and then I’m going to post what I am going to do next.

This is a coast oak. It doesn’t grow in my growing zone, so I’m keeping it inside.

As you can see, there are two shoots from one acorn. I plan on keeping the one on the left, and cutting the one on the right.

I’m gonna wire it into the trunk shape, then I’m going to keep the branch on the very bottom as a sacrifice branch. That will help make the trunk a little thicker there.

Then, I need to repot it into a bonsai pot. I just got to figure out what to do with the very long tap root.

After that, I’m not sure what I’ll do. I need to do more research on it.

Do you think this is a good approach so far? Anything else you think I should do?
