Hi all, here is a little Ulmus parvifolia ive been working on a couple seasons, well it spent just over a season in the ground..

I got it like this

after further branch selection, ive wired everything up and out to reach the light, the branches will thickned far quicker this way...but it makes the tree look even more powerful imo

after these photos, this went back in the grow bed.
i dug it up around a month ago.
i can see the base has improved, certainly a little wider. the transitions are much better. the central leader grew n thickened.

many of the branches were course and had to be cut right back and there was some die back and the tree seemed a little weak from a scale insect attack while in the bed.

its growing well again, will develop this the same way ive done with the chinese elm broom

Lovely elms, Bobby! As a starter, I'd gently ask you something: when it comes to letting Chinese Elms grow freely, do you use a particular soil mixture? I'm looking foward to thickening my "baby elm", so any tips would be welcome. Thanks!
