Jebus that’s a Juniper? You could put a gin factory out of business with that thing. Biggest one I’ve seen over this neck of the woods would barely be big enough to make a yard broom out of.

Without any more of a clue then you, I'll bet older... much older.
Could very well be. Headed up Prescott way next weekend to see the Granite Reef Hotshot juniper. This is one of the trees the Granite Reef Hotshot crew saved the week before all but one of them was killed in the Parnell fire.

Great trip to Prescott today. Well worth the trip to see this monumental tree. About 1.5 miles in from our Jeep accessible parking spot. You can still see part of the fire line the crew built to save this beautiful stand of ancient Alligator juniper. Huge trees.

There are 4 trees in that stand that are close to that size. People have made stone markers with the #19 and arrows guiding you to the tree. Fun hike!

Thanks for posting the pictures of that fantastic, old sentinel as well as the plaque detailing the battle to save it and others like- such an amazing example of perseverance and sacrifice.... and I no longer have to wonder why it's called an Alligator juniper!
