Bought an olive tree two months ago. Normally it would be one for the garden, but like every bonsai beginner, now I see a possible bonsai in every tree :p

My planning is to leave it now in this pot. In spring next year I want to place it in a big pond basket for training.

Tips are welcome... (even the.. "let it be" tips:cool:)

Check out that soil? It looks quite dense and solid from the pics... Have a look at how compact it is, perhaps lift the tree out and check if roots are circling.
If so, during active growing season (like now for UK, I assume same for yourself but I don't see much new growth on yours yet) is the best time to repot it.

I have it on good authority they are quite resilient with root pruning, apparently unkillable basically, but not experienced it myself yet.

Looks to me not it's not root bound. The water still gets through the soil, but yes, the soil feels dense.
From Wednesday on we get higher temps, so is repotting today still a good option?

Could be indeed. But many will say it is the wrong time of year to repot trees.

I myself am in doubt, but also because I might not be around for a few days myself and have to ask someone else to care for the transplant. That being said:

I am thinking about repotting. We are about to get a 2 week heatwave, 32C +. Might be a good moment to repot?

Took the risk. Just repotted.
Given the inverted taper, I only pruned the downward roots. In September, I'll ground-layer just under the bulge.
I guess it's best not to expose the tree to midday sun from Wednesday to Sunday?

I wouldnt repot or touch roots again in September mate. You've done this now, let it be.
What substrate did you use?

As long as the tree has started actively growing for the year, its the best time for repoting. Im happy for someone to tell me I'm wrong on that, ill tell them they are wrong :).
