Thought I’d share some photos I took for inspiration. These belong to a very old olive tree, inside Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo’s castle ruins.

Thanks for the photos. olive dead wood is durable so tends to last well. Many of the oldest olives are completely hollow or have extensive dead wood.
All that is great for us olive collectors because we can cut trees down and disguise the stumps and cuts by carving and using dead wood in the design.

Provided it is not too wet to get in to the site our bonsai club members are going to a farm to dig feral olives next week.

I think thecracks were too obviously manmade, and I would recommend making them more uneven in size 😜

Ahahahah I don’t think these were manmade but who knows for sure..
