This is one of 3 olive tree stumps I dug up over 6 months ago.
They have had to be cut back a number of times.
They have been powering along really well.

Now I have decided to have a go at carving.
I've never done it before but thought I might give it try.

This is all I have taken out so far.
I plan on carving more of the inside away.
(more pics to follow in the next few days)

Nice start. Usually carving is done on healthy, lush trees as part of their styling. Although the tree will probably be ok, I would have waited until the tree was very full and healthy. I would let it rest for maybe a couple of years, then you can rough style, and continue the carving. I know it may seem like a while to wait. However, better to wait and have a live tree, than rush it and have a dead one.

This olive is very very healthy.
I have had to cut back the foliage a number of times over the last 6 months.
It's forever throwing out new buds everywhere.

I would think that in future iterations you might try removing some of the symmetry. I'm not sure what design you are going for, but maybe a spial layout of the branches could be interesting if contrived.
