Olive.... (Problem?)

Pretty old olive.


Leaves are withering at ends of limbs.



This has happened when the foliage goes to the end only and from a fairly large limb to start with.
THEORIZING....too much distance to feed leaves. (?) A couple limbs had purely DEAD leaves so I lopped them off.



So my question is to everyone and ESPECIALLY @JudyB is whether there is a remedy other than removal of limb.
OR... removal of the weak end of limb??

A limb that isn't GONE is seemingly having same issue but not as bad. There is more foliage on the larger limb they emanate from.



Other than this weak ends thing, the tree ....seems...fine.

Considering removing the lower limbs altogether. Here's a couple virts:

You know, if you really want help based on the photos, you need to take better pictures with a less distracting background. Even a piece of paper blocking the background would help immensely.

It looks like it is suffering from dehydration!
How long have you got this tree? Is it hot and dry in your area nowadays?
It seems you use inorganic soil dominantly?

Under the rocky surface is some fir bark soil.
Not a lot.
It has been leafing out prodigiously all season in the upper areas.

If I were you, I would do
1- take a look the under surface of the leaves to see any white spots. If there are then it may be infected by white flies
2- if 1- is normal, then I will either move the tree to the less intensive direct sunlight area or cover the pot with white T shirt or nursery net to cool off the pot at this time . I think your soil is not supply enough moisture for the root system.

Good suggestion but there is NO heat here this year. Right now, it's clouding up to rain tomorrow and the temp is 70F.

I'm still not convinced that the tiny foliage at the ends of ....barren.... large limbs just couldn't/can't draw any auxin for growth.
The top is so healthy it's crazy.

Oh, also. No white spots. I control scale with Bayer Feed&Protect. Since using it, I have had NO scale and it used to get INFESTED 2-3 years ago.

This maybe a real loss. I've had this lil tree since it was a volunteer stick probably 20 years ago. Now it is having problems. The limbs are dessicating. Leaves turn brown or wither or just drop off. This is fairly recent. The limbs shed leaves til the leaves are only at the very end...
