ive no doubt that a drill bit will go right through that olive dry wood and a termite/makita will just eat it up. dust everywhere.
you only need a drill bit and a roto saw to make a hollow in this material.

what we dont know is there may be some rot underneath the initial weathered dry wood, in that case the drill bit will go through like butter and make hollowing very easy.

It has been weeded, since these pics...
Its growing very slowly, even throughout winter, just grows very slow..

You'll notice the front small branch that was cut, has sprouted 2 shoots. Both in really perfect locations, so they will be kept to grow. With the movement of the initial primary branch, should make for a nice tight little foliage pad.

see i know Conor wont want to go very deep on the hollow. so i think a mm or so, should be fairly easy work, just enough to get past the outer weathered section and create a crevice, then burn or stain the wood inside. take it deeper as that weathers in. i would do it in one go but not my tree.
