Some updates on the trees! Some seem to have held up pretty well — others not so much. I hope the wrinkled leaves means that they're going to drop leaves soon and go into dormancy!

It's going to be 30 F for the next day or so, so they're going to be outside. But they're going back in since a 15 F night is coming soon...

Here in Santa Fe we’re about to go suddenly from highs in the 70’s into several days with lows in the teens and 20’s. Looks like my three pre-bonsais will be going into the garage for a while.

Wow, what a swing!
extreme shifts like this are becoming less and less surprising, but still brutal!😣

I assume trees in a cold garage should be watered on a winter schedule, even if they’ve just recently been subjected to cold temperatures, right? How long does it take a tiny tree to go dormant? Mine lost their leaves a couple of weeks ago from the shock of repotting them from the nursery pots into my own (so they’d have better drainage).

I had never thought of this: do you guys water your trees in pots when there’s snow outside? How do trees fulfill their water needs if the water is frozen >_>?
Good question. I’m hoping someone will answer this.
For example, It has not been-and will not be- above freezing Here for a couple more days.
What do you do? The plants will still have some sort of water requirements.
Im thinking of just adding snow on/in the pots to be available when things warm up slightly.

If the tree was not dry when they freeze, then they'll be fine, when it warms up enough to unfreeze water then. Or if you have snow, just allow the snow to melt on it. When I kept trees outside, I would pile snow on them so they would water themselves. You'll have to check on these if they swing thru freezes and thaws so they don't ever dry out.

Well, it’s hit...we were about 70 degrees F (21 C) yesterday at my house, and right now with the CONSTANT wind, it’s wind chill 6 F (-16 C)! This is why I get a bonsai choice of 1) piñons or 2) junipers. 😂

That’s not even enough for a mini-snowman! We don’t have any snow yet, but we’re supposed to have about a foot in the next few days. I hope!

Picture updates! Looks like we’re in for a heat wave (30s-50s) for the next week. I’m bringing them out, but it looks like leaves are already dropping? Hopefully, this is just dormancy, rather than death!!!
