This is my oak. I think I got it as a 4 leaf acorn in 2015-16
This year I potted it in a deeper pot. It is VIGOROUS !

This is the old pot. 2017

Deeper pot.

I'm thinking of going back to the wider shallower pot. Actually one that is a smidge larger. Thinking being more soil surface area.
Learned journals say oaks should be repotted every 2-3 YEARS.

Opinions?

I suppose it depends on how much more you want it to grow. If you want it to get thicker, then the bigger pot would be good until you're satisfied with the size. Once in the shallower pot, if I'm not mistaken, it won't thicken as fast.

I'm looking forward to the year that my oaks are as nice as yours!!!

The first repot from the acorn tree delivered about 5-6 FEET of roots. It never had a tap root. I lopped that off when planting the acorn.
The shallower pot holds appx. the same amount of soil as the deeper one.
So, maybe nothing to gain.

Maybe not! If those roots have room to grow, then I would think that's all you really need.

Are you going to repot in summer? Or wait until winter?

It's oak. Critical as to roots. IF I repot at all, it will be late spring after it makes some buds and shoots.
