tbh, I have NEVER seen these as hedges, and never seen them for sale for reasonable prices. In the UK and mainland europe, these are planted as hedges a lot. It's fairly easy to find good specimens for super low prices, especially if you're willing to dig them up.

Im thinking of buying this tree just wanted your opinion. Asking price is £210, London area
I think the vertical branch in the middle right is another tree behind the main tridentWecome aboard BNut!
Personally, I'd pass. Especially if you are just starting out.
It is really Interesting.... yet a little too abstract for my tastes. Also the lower trunk style appears to have a real personality clash with the vertically inclined fat branch junction in right in the middle. Its almost like the owner changed their mind on style in the middle of the growing process.
My vote. Save the £210 and get a couple younger nicely designed maples to improve.

You're right. I mistook them for A. buergeranium.tbh, I have NEVER seen these as hedges, and never seen them for sale for reasonable prices.
That being said, I do not really like the looks of this particular plant, and would pass on it, certainly at that pricepoint.
Check with bonsai plaza. THey might still ship to the UK and often have a range of tridents in all sorts of pricepoints. Typically their pricing is fair for the mid-to-high quality trees.
