Over wintering

Could I overwinter a maple in a large planter such as this? (Obviously without the flowers)

What species of maple?
What container is it in now?
Where would you overwinter? Garage? Cold frame? In the ground?
Does it have drain holes?

All of these are favors and it is difficult to give just one answer without this missing information.
