Hey all

I've had this nursery A. palmatum Katsura for about 4 years now, the graft isn't too noticeable and I had originally bought it with the intention of airlayering / cutting off all those smaller stems to make a c.15 inch bonsai.
I noticed a small patch of scarring a while ago, and since purchase the tree has displayed uneven vigour, with some areas extending and others barely leafing out / browning off mid-season.
The areas/patches of damage appear to have spread to numerous parts of the tree.

Wondering if anyone can offer advice - my first thought was Verticillium wilt. I have lost other maples unexpectedly following even very light repotting or pruning and wondered if this could be to blame.

In any case, is there anything I can do in this situation - cut off all affected sections? Any kind of fungal treatments? Maybe even scrape off, disinfect and seal the patches?
Following this, is this tree going to be too compromised to be worth attempting bonsai? I have been leaving it alone following initial repot about 3.5 years ago to try and gain some vigour but it is refusing to do so.
I guess if the low vigour is due to a fungus it is probably systemic now and cutting off affected areas probably won't cure.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
