People are easy to impress with air layers

My friend has a big kumquat tree that was being snuffed out by the big 4" branches of the lemon root base. This past February I air layered two big branches (3" or so) of the base lemon. Yesterday we collected the air-layers and cut the rest of the lemon branches away. We then fertilized the heck out of the tree. Hopefully the kumquat will recover.

My friend was absolutely amazed when he saw the big root balls when I peeled back the plastic of the air layers.

After just 3 weeks, we have shoots as long as 18 inches that are bearing flowers and setting fruits!

I forgot to mention that after the removal of the lemon huge branches, the kumquat recovered well. It also grew a whole bunch of new shoots and had another batch of flowers for the second crop of fruits 2 months behind the first batch.
