Can someone ID these? They are causing my Japanese Maples to wilt with the new soft growth being the most impacted.

I ordered Insect Soap Spray and will start applying as soon as I get it. However, f this doesn't work, any suggestions for other insecticide? Thanks!

looks like a leaf hopper. I had them in my vegetable garden before. My infestation wasn't to bad. I probably used an insecticide soap. I do remember someone telling me to hang reflective tape or tin foil as it throws off there sight/navigation. I did not try this method so can't tell you if it is effective.

I get them from time to time when they find me. The rainbow ones too!

Then, I proceed to have a flick fest.

If you can slowly move it away from your collection, without nudging, you can shake em off.

Or flick a twig and watch where they jump. Then smash them.

Good fun.

I applied insect soap spray yesterday and they dropped dead within minutes. I'll wait to see if this one particular maple recovers from severe wilting (all new growth wilting/dried/blacked). If it doesn't, it must be fungal.

A warning: some maples don't like soap sprays.

I've never known leaf hoppers to damage a bonsai.

I looks like your typical bonsai-destroying monster (greenfly?)
