I generally don't think of ants as good or bad. They are kind of like a weed in that they are usually an issue when in the wrong place.

How big? They look like carpenter ants.

I think they may be carpenter ants. They are much bigger than the fire ants I am used to.

Like saw dust? There was a fair amount when I was loading the firewood pile.

Carpenter Ants are not good in or around your home or your bonsai trees. They are destructive to anything wood. The ants especially like woodpiles….and home 2x4s.

I have a pesticide product I’ve used that eliminates ants where they are not wanted. They track the liquid spray on their feet into the nest without knowing they are tracking it in. The entire nest is destroyed quickly. I had a bad backyard ant infestation a few years back and tried this product after the pros gave me the answer. The ants were all gone the next day. Three years ago I had carpenter ants around outside the house. One spray and they were gone and have not returned. It's a chemical liquid for this purpose. Some don’t like chemicals. I'm okay with use. It also works the same for termites and all ants.
