I have to agree with JudyB.
I have never looked at K-Bar till last night when it was mixed in with all the new posts and accidently clicking on one of them. I can not look at certain people the way I did before reading some of their rants. I can't say it needs to go. I'm all about freedom of speech and the K-Bar is a place to express that. But the way everyone talked to one another was just childish and disrespectful. It was not a great display of our freedom of speech.

This now causes me to look at the people involved differently when I see their post or comments elsewhere. And whats worst is a lot of the arguments I've seen on this forum started from the K-Bar and overflows into the rest of the forum.

I just really regret getting on this site last night and learning what I did.

Do you fear opinions other than those you surround yourself with,is it like too much to bear,a terrible weighty burden,a scar on your conscience, stain on your soul.

To be smothered, garroted or done away with in a ghastly manner befitting of odious others?

If so you may well be involved in the socialist millieu.

It's an observation.

Now that the "cat is out of the bag", even if accidentally, it would be a perfect time for bonsainut to admit that the current state of the bar is a problem and just get rid of it. I have little faith that will happen, unfortunately.

Lol,my cup runneth over.

Maybe this milk of human kindness will trickle down into the bar from the IBC,but if i were a gambling man i would place a wager on something else.

Bonsai people are people, with all their warts and nasty little ticks. Wishing otherwise is mostly futile. Everyone has ideas and some have ideas you're not going to agree with. Some have ideas that are mostly whacked.

However, it is through bonsai that those warts, ticks, differences even whackadoodleness fade. Although I fundamentally abhor most, if not all, the idiotic claptrap that gets spewed at the bar, I find it hard to see the people with those views as demons given their love of little trees. My reaction tends to be the exact opposite of turning away from those people. Knowing they love bonsai shows me they may have stupid, sometimes detestable, ideas, but there's something in them that I can speak to. It makes me less likely to demonize them (which is all too common in politics these days).

That's a good way to look at it.
Quirky little creatures, those KBar rats, but at least they have one good thing in them....:)

The only way that I can forgive their vice, though, is if they can produce a decent bonsai, now and then.

I've read this thread and the differing opinons with interest as I have noticed a bit of a decline in the number of people here. Here is my take on the topic.

I went into the Bar section once and only once and Ill never do it again. I am here to discuss and share discussion about bonsai. I get enough politics and other topics at work and elsewhere. The bar and its discussions are extremely ugly and that is putting it mildly.

I am unhappy to hear that people are becoming divided and won't participate in some bonsai discussions because of what certain people have posted in the bar. That hurts my ability to learn from them about bonsai.

I've seen some people such as Walter Pall on this site and I was excited to have such a notable bonsai person here when I first saw him online. I don't believe has has posted anything since I've been here. It makes me wonder why.

I'm also unhappy to hear that some people are leaving this site because of that particular section and I have to say that if that continues to happen then Ill be forced to leave as well because this site will no longer provide the discussion and learning about bonsai that I came here for.

If its dividing the community and hindering the exchange of ideas and learning about bonsai then it is my opinion that it does not belong here and should be gotten rid of.

You are exactly right...its not worth arguing but thinking Bnut cares one little bit about "what" is said here, now that is just funny! I've been around here for a long time on and off and this has never been anything but Bnut's house. Besides, I bet Harry is helping to finance this site because he knows his brand of hate wouldn't be tolerated any where else. Maybe we should petition for a new name - Harry's World Of HATE!

Care to actually discuss bonsai, you have 7 posts, and 2 are about this, and you aren't thrillied with the owner.

....I know one thing, though. As soon as I find out about somebody that he is spewing hatred, no amount of nice trees will induce me to participate in any discussion that he/she is part of. I just don't have the need to be around extremists of any sort. So, there goes the argument that bonsai and politics can be separated...

Usually I would not entertain saying that I didn't think you to be this closed minded.

I for one am a Libertarian, a far different thing from a Liberal. But this thread is not about political orientation, rather it is about civilized behavior. Everyone defecates, but most don't do it in the living room (or the bar).

Then don't go there, it's really that simple.

Ditto for me Judy! And Chris, JKL, and all the others who have said the bar poisons the rest of the board. Please give it more thought Bnut Admin to shut it down. I agree, they can have their own 'private' conversations via pm or email. This should be a place where bonsai should be discussed, not some crazy ass conspiracy theories.

But yet you interject this - not some crazy ass conspiracy theories. But the others are bad????????????????

Yes there have been some "rough" exchanges and it's certainly not a perfect place (is there such a thing?). However, at least most of the exchanges are related to bonsai, not whether someone is a liberal or conservative.

Chris

In a place designed for that exchange, why do you have a problem?
