So, during my trip to japan I’ve had only a few seconds to ponder bonsai. Stopped by a couple of places in Iida city, Nagano prefecture.

Marumei, sits near the Tenryu river, just got out of a flood watch. turned out to be mostly accent plants.

The owner does a lot of moss ball art for local restaurants. Never saw anyone in the store or outside.

Second place was murai bonsai. The old owner was old as stone. Just got to decandling his pines because the weather has been “hen”. Weird....usually done by the end of May .
Junipers were field grown for about 20-30 years and carved during the winter. Pines ranged from 20 to 300 years.
