Pine Candles showing needles already

Some of my pines have candles that are beginning to have needles opening at the base of the candle. Does this change the schedule or treatment when de-candling? March 30 seems very early for the candles to be showing needles already.

No...the de candling time is based on the amount of growing season left...approx 100 days left is a number I here alot. I decandle in early to mid July regardless of when the buds begin to move.

My "decandling day" is July 4. It's easy to remember. Last year I actually did it on the 3rd because I was out of town on the 4th.

My needles grew to be about 1.25 inches last year. Perfect!

If I wanted them longer, cut earlier. Shorter needles, cut a couple weeks later.

You need to find your own "decandling day" that works best for your climate.
