I have one, growing now in a pot; I love the flowers on and the color of the trunk.

cut it!

Cut, in addition, cut all the branches to length shorter than the longest straight segment of the trunk. Branch coming from base of trunk I'd remove completely.

Years from now, any long straight branches will be visual flaws, and because of their age you won't want to remove them.
