This thread went dark fast! We've all killed trees in service to our own wish to control nature, or maybe in pursuit of beauty? Either way, I think it is a function of learning how to grow with them not just grow them. I think we owe it to trees, beauty, nature, whatever your own personal goal is to learn from the death of that pitch pine and try something else.

Maybe try another type of tree? The box stores actually have some decent specimens if you dig around the roots. Go check check them out and bring your phone. Find a nice looking trunk and search the name of the tree on bonsai nut to see if it's a good species to try.

Keep us updated and ask for help, advice, thoughts, support, etc. You will learn a lot from the folks here - we have all killed a lot of trees and have learned from it.
