Planning for my yamadori hunting trip

I go to my friends land it is zone 3a northern MN Theres spruce, pine, and hornbeam I am wondering what else I should look for,


My friend says there are 2 Larch up there with 1-2 inch trunks but they are in a foot of water in the swampy area so I am wondering if theres any special consideration when collecting from swamps.


The soil there is black clay so yea it presents its own chcallenges and everything seems pretty swampy.

Northern MN is a bit out of the Carolina Hornbeam's natural range...3as is a bit low for it.

In my Dirr's manual it says Carpinus Carolinas is hardy to zone 3b. I was a bit suprised too but theres a lot of them up there. Reading more it says they prefer really daamp environments so maybe it just took well to all their damp clay soil.
