Planting Dwarf Hinoki Cypress on Volcanic Rock

Hello all,

I planted some of my dwarf hinoki cypress on volcanic rocks.







I drilled holes for installing wire supports and drainage.






Really liked the natural harmony between the trees, moss, and volcanic rocks, will continue planting trees on volcanic rocks if I find suitable ones.

Your new plantings look great.

If you are not already aware, be prepared to water these a lot more than trees in pots. The rock absorbs water from the soil and evaporates it into the air. Maybe you are in a humid area in Korea and these will do well but in dry areas it can take a lot of watering to keep small rock plantings alive.

Yes, I've set up the automatic watering system to water twice a day, and in the summer, I'll set it to three times a day.

And the moss helps maintain the moisture of the soil as well.
