So im in Zone 14, if im planting trees from zone 6 what could be the problems?
Wiki says Johannesburg's lowest temperature in an average year is 26.4F (-3.1C). If we are talking USDA hardiness zones, this would be a zone 9. Does your location typically have any below freezing nights in the winter?
On the USDA scale, zone 14 would mean a location that doesn't average a single temperature below 70F in an entire year. That would have to be like sea level on an equatorial island somewhere.
Lack of winter chill. Temperate trees need a dormancy period to maintain health and vigor. Trees that don't meet their chill requirements weaken over time and may eventually die if this happens year after year.

Even though Johannesburg's extreme lows aren't that low, they get four months straight with low temperatures of 45F or less. I would predict many deciduous species would and must already thrive there.
Whats your zone?Climate Zone Envy
