I'm referencing a thread to @Johnnyd that I can't find.

The one with s.ole talking to dude about that trident that was going to die back.

I thought he .are a thread on it called "another maple, another conundrum"
Or the like....
And I can't find it.

Kinda pertinent information.

Thanks

thing done wrong was to allow the tree to exit the soil at 90 degrees. Plants started for bonsai should always be planted at a 30 degree angle away from the sun and allowed to push towards the sun. This will allow for a subtle curve in the trunk. The second mistake made was the first chop was done on a trunk with no shoots below the chop. It could have had one, which was preserved for that first directional change or may have been a bud, who knows. In any case the lower trunk is scarless and shows no signs of growth below that chop.

What happened was, as the tree grew in the new direction,

Jersey?

Just remember the reason Al may have not..."seen any fruits" is because he is in some kind of climatic climax zone, where as long as they allow him to use water. . his trees grow like weed in Oregon.

Highly useful stuff that has to be well thought out to adapt for ourselves.

In my 7 years of rookieness...(a good average gauge)
I've been noting Al's growing season to be about 2 or 3 years longer than mine.

It's like Dog years.

If I ever get deciduous trees to grow well...which may be this year! That might reduce to one or 2....

But its this reason that we can't do the same things as Al. It is not just a "longer growing season" its a season that takes our trees 2 years.

Winter in between those 2 years, and the simple fact that dormancy happens...

That's why we must be careful.

It depends....

But it will always boil down to a different finish.

If only the size of cuts we can heal in one year.

What a useful thread! You all will know the local forum history better than any one. Thanks for digging up the reference material.
