I remember my ex-wife : we climbed mountains in the Pyreneans, that was hard, but so rewarding. Watched the wild poneys (potoks) and the beautiful landscape.
The problem was getting back down the slopes : it's so hard when you have to try and "brake down" in slopes covered with rocks. The top of the thighs, and the rest of the leg really suffer. What's more, for white people like us, sunbuns are adding to the suffering.
She was standing atop of a slope with rocks that would go down if she would just stay "tetanized" and jump. And her muscles were "tetanized" because of fear, fatigue, lack of confidence.
We went up to show her the path, relax her muscles and rest in the "plain". I was knackered myself, with the top of my thighs sunburnt and hard as concrete.
One of my sons now lives in the Pyreneans, and is a jolly good "walker". He's waiting for January 20th to getback to his job, but still goes "hillwalking" as my Scots friends would say in the 1970s, and thinks himself an artist meanwhile
What do you say, "a chip from the old block" ?.....
