Gardening Scotland show in Edinburgh. Our association, the Scottish Bonsai Association (SBA) put the Scottish National Collection on show along with more than 100 members trees at various stages of show level development :) We received a gold for our stand in the gardening Scotland show! More than 20 Yews and a few pines were donated and wired up on the day to allow the public to see what can be achieved from nursery stock and generate revenue for the SBA. Five stands in total each having a steward and a different category. People's choice judging was run on all members trees. We were visited by the Chinese ambassador. Weirdest question was... which ones are plastic! ?20190531_091823.jpg20190531_091903.jpg20190531_091836.jpg20190531_092022.jpg20190531_094408.jpg20190531_094842.jpg20190531_094259.jpg20190531_094456.jpg20190531_123730.jpg20190531_094239.jpg

Hummingbird nest. What are the odds of seeing one of these. I only found it because I noticed a hummingbird dive bombing a bluebird in a tree. If you've ever watched hummingbirds you have undoubtedly seen them chasing each other (especially if you have feeders up) but I don't think I've ever seen one going after another bird. Thought...hmmm, that's strange. Maybe there's a nest up there. Got lucky and found it in about 10 seconds with binoculars.

Nest is 15-20 feet up in a tree and I had to use max zoom on my camera plus a tripod...still a very difficult shot since the branches were swaying in the breeze. Will try to get photos once the babies hatch and are visible.

This is how we grow our trees on the hill, but deer will eat our trees, so we put up this fishing line fencing that seems to work great from what I have read. This test spot has been up for a little over a week, so far so good, but I need to give it a month or more to see if it is working, fingers crossed!

Has anyone else tried this to protect their trees? Did it work? thanks.

Meet our kids. Bonzi (Bon-zee) died last Fall at 18 yrs old. Have had Callie 21 yrs and was full grown when we got her.
Bonzi was my drinkin buddy. He hopped up on the table with me every morning at breakfast and drank water, a lot of water.
He was a social drinker

Like a tree in development, coming along but still what a long ways to go!

Milling the deck boards out of old cedar power poles. Takes some creative dogging to get the usable wood out of these old checked things.
