The beginnings of a Mugo Raft year two from nursery tree (obviously). Next year depending on how it makes it through the winter we will start working on ramifying and reducing. As you can see it now there is no apparent secondary ramification but that is going to change.

Maybe @wireme or an unknown BNut mycologist knows what this big black fungi in the forest is.

Nope sorry, maybe the photo is enough for someone very familiar with that particular fungi but generally at minimum a pic from underneath as well as above is required to get an ID. Other info like habitat (was it growing from dirt or a buried stump?) , does the flesh stain when bruised or cut to oxidize, cross section pic, etc, etc is always helpful. Looks cool though, very possibly edible or medicinal, there are very few toxic polypores out there I have been told.
