Hi there,

I have this pomegranate from cutting 2 years ago. It´s just a very straight not interesting one, but hopefully I can get some potential. Last year Feb 2020 I repotted here:

Now Feb 2021 I wonder what could ne next step:

I wonder if I could chop the trunk to see if it provokes the trunk to backbud growing branches in the lower part of the trunk and next year I could use any of those as a new apex...?

Another option could be to continue the apex using left branch and either cut straight when choping the trunk or leave a bit of deadwood:

I´m sure there might be some more options... Any suggestion?

Maybe also @bonhe has some ideas...

Suppose it depends what you want to do with this material over the next few years.

Since the trunk is so straight and about 90% of your tree - you could chop to one of the lower left branches and wire up a new leader to build some taper for an upright. In this case, I'd chop off the thicker left branch.

The low chop utilizing the thich branch is also a fine idea.

If I had this tree, I would plan to do it either
1- double trunk: i would make an air layer in A and cover the cutting surface with soil. Cut off the trunk in B and wire one small branch up for trunk line

2- cut the trunk liked you think, and use small branch as a future trunk.

If you do it right, you can have a nice tree in 5-6 years.
Good luck to you .

Thank you, I will give it some thought, I did not think about option 1, but I might even go that way. Any suggestion for this second one?

Thanks!
