Pretty Fly for a Bonsai Guy
Over the last 18 weeks, we rebuilt our pool. Ok we didn't, Jarrod and Jorge did. We just lived around it while they did all the work.
The current fiberglass pool had settled at the deep end, so when full, the shallow end water was still about 6" from the top. Settling caused leaks in the plumbing and repairs took out the spa jets, and created unevenness in the decking pavers. however, the kids liked all the ledges, and the wife liked the steps and shallow tanning ledge. I thought it would be good to have an open lane for potential lap swimming. We all agreed the blue was fun, white would be boring, and too dark would be creepy. Although French Gray is hot right now, the color is about the same as wet concrete, and when I'm not working, I rather enjoy a break from wet concrete.
The old pool footprint was approximately 12' x 25', but the shape meant that there was really no point at which the swimming area was actually 12' wide, or 25' long.
The pool equipment was situated in the yard on a concrete pad, taking up precious lawn space. Under the deck is a utility closet that would hold the equipment much better, and be out of the way. We wanted to recover as much lawn as possible at the deep end, and Mrs. really likes the look of grass meeting the coping, so we added that to the design.
The patio was also built to include a step, which was a trip hazard, especially when guests were looking at the Bonsai trees, and not watching their step.
Late September 2018, we drained it. I actually did that part.
