Possible pear start

My mother in law has a very small pear tree in her back yard with some amazing shapes on it. I think it's quite old. She wants to get rid of it so I want to learn how to take a piece off of it to become bonsai. I'm pretty new but have a green thumb. Thought this was a good place to start.
So how should I begin? Thanks!

The process for creating a bonsai from a portion of another tree or bush is known as an "Air Layer". There are other ways such as cuttings and ground layers. If you google any of these terms you'll find lots of information available.
