I was feeling that pic #1 would be the front... of course, a lot is going to depend on where it buds at as well...

Also, open the pics in a new window to view in full for a better look

Nice trunk to work with, they throw branches out like crazy during the growing season,so it should not take to long to make something nice out of this material.

I like photo number two as the front, and get rid of the heavy long branch to the left, the trunk moves nicely to the right.Just my opinion.Enjoy

This tree has great potential, I might have even cut it back even harder.

I think the best use of this material would be to create a number of deadwood features... I think I see a front in pic 2 (with some tilting/turning etc) which focuses on the live vein in the middle which has some great movement. The live tissue flanking it could be torn away to make a shari. Potentilla are a pleasure to work with. See attached scribble :)

There might be a better front somewhere, but try to find one that allows you to amplify the movement in the trunk by creating driftwood features.

Roelex, I know we were talking about potentilla's last year - you found a great one!

Good luck and keep us posted. In two years you can have a lovely little tree.

Today I ended up cutting it back a bit harder. I'll try to get some pics up when I get off work tomorrow evening.
