This is a Potentilla I purchased this summer. (excuse the outdated pictures) Beautiful white flowers, and a lovely base with potential! Now, I'm looking to make this into a lovely small tree. Currently it's in a large 2gal nursery container, but I'd like to put it into a small pot that really highlights the width of the tree. I know Potentilla can take quite a beating, but how trigger-happy can I be? I don't mind taking my time reducing the rootmass over the years (they are coming out of the bottom of the pot) but I'd like to know if there's a better point to stop at, so as not to kill it. I'll post updated pictures of it tomorrow when the sun's shining.

Probably safe to reduce foliage now. And repot in spring. People seem to all have their methods though.
